Flat Classroom Conference

Building bridges today that society tomorrow will walk across

Hi my name is Jess I am a kiwi (from New Zealand) and am an 11th grade student in Qatar Academy. This is my second year living in Qatar. I love going to school at QA and Qatar as a country is very interesting. As a westerner coming to Qatar was a big environment change, (when we first came we saw camels being lead by their herder outside our compound!!) but my lifestyle is very similar to what I am used to. I am a sports freak and QA offers many different sports teams for me to join. Between my homework and my sports I don’t get out much social time but there is a range of different activities available. Many families go for the day or go camping in the desert, and one of the main things for a teenager to do on the weekends is to go to one of the many malls. One of the things I like about living in Qatar is how safe you feel. Me and my family feel very safe when we are out day or night.

Nice to see another Kiwi here. I have some freinds moving out to teach in Qatar and they will be very reassure by your comments and that you are enjoying your time there.

Hi Jess, thank you for telling us a little about Qatar and your life there. I am also a teacher like Anne Mirtschin from Victoria, Australia but my school is in the north west of Victoria. My school is a country school like AnneM's and is also a P-12 so I get to work with kids of all ages. I too am coming to the conference but unfortunately we were not allowed to bring students so I am coming to represent Wedderburn College and I hope that we can work out a way to link back in to our school while I am over in Qatar so that we can talk with each other in real time. Our students took part in the Digiteen project so they have gotten to know a little bit about other students through that. I am very excited to be coming and I really do want to learn lots more about the country of Qatar and the life that you live there. It must be so interesting. I'm looking forward to meeting you and your teachers and like AnneM I would also like to know about appropriate dress and the weather that we should expect.

Hello Jess! I am a teacher from south west Victoria in Australia and am bringing three students with me for the flatclassroom conference in January. We are getting quite excited about coming and it is lovely to read your post about your life in Qatar. I hope someone will tell us what is expected of us as far as dress goes and what the weather might be like in January.
