A request went up asking for participants, both real and virtual to summarize the Flat Classroom Conference in Doha, Qatar in 3 words. Many people have responded to that request on this ning. Here are the results. Thanks to those who contributed.

Flat Classroom Workshop in Hong Kong

I have been fortunate to be a part of the flatclassroom workshop at the 21st Century Learning at Hong Kong conference, when not involved in other activities. Again, it is fascinating to hear the students mixed with in a group of others from a range of cultures and backgrounds, working in teams collaboratively - with students they did not know before yesterday.
At times, participants listened to the keynote addresses, but mostly they focused o… Continue

All eyes on the flatclassroom conference

Words cannot begin to describe the amazing experiences that we had whilst in Doha, Qatar, in January 2009 for the flatclassroom conference.

However, as part of my reflections, I will take a look at it through my eyes in respect to:-

-Students
-teachers
-travellers
-leaders
-parents

What has happened to my routine?

What has happened to my routine?
This morning, I was awoken by my husband shaking me asking me what time I needed to get up on my first morning back in Australia. (I had already slept in by an hour.) The routine that had been developed over the last week has been broken.
5am Prayers from the local mosque would awaken me in Doha, Qatar
5:30am Arise and get organized for the day
7:20am School would start at the Qatar Academy, or 8:00am the flatclassroomconference would commence .
School day, tours… Continue

The foods of Qatar - as experienced during my time in Doha and at the Qatar Academy

Before we came to Doha, I asked what they typical foods of Qatar were. Having tried many of them whilst there at restaurants, the souks and Qatar Academy, I found I really enjoyed them. They tended to be spicy but very tasty. I failed to mention that fish is another popular dish and I tried hamour, one of the varieties.
I have put photos and some comments into the slideshare below.

No- I didn't join yet but now I will. I won't actually have a classroom next year because I am now working as a "facilitator" which is like a coach. I will be working with 2 Title One schools in my district helping them to increase student achievement. I hope I can find a teacher that might be interested in a project that You and I can work on...what grade level are your students?? I'm so excited!!! This will be great!!!

Thank you so much! I am so excited to be a part of this! This year my students were penpals with students from England. I had plans to have them talk to each other through VoiceThread but I didn't get it working in time. I hope that FlatClassroom will help me become a better educator. I am so excited about where education is headed with technology integration!!

I was also wondering whether we were going to do anything for Bob Handbury. I'm more than happy to take Emily, Tara and Carly for a visit and perhaps give a small presentation of their trip. Let me know what you think!

Sadly the recording in the bus was too loud for my little recorder (are we surprised?) - next time I want to have something that can switch to automatic level control at times like this. The other usable selections are in the music player on my page. We're back in the saddle here and fighting ice and snow - different from your forest fires! Keep in touch, Chris
