From a Flat Classroom to a Flat World

I’m back from the Flat Classroom Workshop that was in Hong Kong last week. Now it’s time to return to the endless cycle of homeworks, projects, and tests (sigh). But before that, let me tell you about Flat Classroom.

We attended helpful lectures about how to utilize web 2.0 tools–Chatzy, Ning, Wikispace… Continue

Reflection from Doha

Congrats to all groups on their ideas to address Digital Divide issues. Interesting to follow the work. In some ways like the FCR conference that was here in Doha in January. In other ways new slants being put on as new people bring their experiences to the group. Particularly impressed with insights into 'bumpy' learning in a flattening world. Also the 'bridges', 'analog leap' and 'communities' ideas. Looking forward to seeing the final presentations. Keep up the inspiring work Julie and Kim. R… Continue

flatclassrooms can be bumpy

This has been an interesting experience. I especially enjoyed watching the students working together and was impressed by the speed at which students were able to put their presentations together. At school they would have had a couple of weeks to complete a project. In retrospect, I wish I had been more technologically competent and familiar with the Web tools, as this would have enabled me to contribute more to our project. What has been very useful is the exposure to the possibilities of tech… Continue

Reflection of the 21CHK-flat classroom

In the past two days, I've been joining the flat classroom conference. My schoolmates and I came from local schools in Hong Kong. So, for a period of time, we faces communication problems. By getting more to know each other, the problem is solved. From my perspective, I think that the use technology is becoming more and more important. In local school like mine, the use of technology is not as frequent as here. It is my first time that everyone carry their notebook and preset what they want in c… Continue

faltering, flatenning, fascinating

Flat. The dictionary definition:
1. horizontally level: a flat roof.
2. level, even, or without unevenness of surface

My experience with the Flat Classroom project has twisted that definition just a bit. Students are very uneven, rarely living without an uneven surface. Teachers are perhaps a bit more even simply by the nature of teaching and life experience, but uneven in perspectives.

The process begins with students and teachers who have just met, put rapidly into working groups. Hitting th… Continue

Reflection of the 21CHK

I am glad to attend this conference. In the past two days, our group had made a video which talked about the age gap of using technology. Lots of the senior citizens, over 65 years old, do not use technology. We came up with some solutions.

We su sggested that we could set up public computer labs which is free for everyone. These labs let the senior citizens learn the basic skills of using computer. Such as e-mailing, web browsing... During the making of the video, we had lots of fun. There wer… Continue

Reflaction on 21CHK Flat Classroom conference

This is my first time participating in some activities with someone from foreign countries and international schools. I found my language skills not as good as my teammates. My English is not fluent enough to fit the pace of the conference. I spent most of the time catching up with my teammates but not thinking of ideas. Though, I am glad that I was allocated into a team with friendly mates. They gave chance for me to try presenting and improve by time. I am comparatively bad in speaking English… Continue
